id Theater is saddened to share the news of the death of Kathy Troutner who has been a great friend to id and to the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference for so many years. Kathy was a powerhouse and an inspiration, I wish I had half the energy today that she had at 89. I feel very fortunate to have had some truly wonderful conversations with Kathy this spring as we were planning for the 2009 Conference. Kathy very generously housed some of our artists at her home in McCall, but our conversations touched on a million different topics: scuba diving, medicine, family, flat-screen televisions, bikes, gardening, love, animals, water pipes, the future and how it shifts without our permission from one thing to the next. Kathy was actually quite close to Ben’s grandparents and Ben and I always enjoyed having dinner with her and her wonderful husband Earnie and hearing her great stories about the days when a cabin on the lake was really just a cabin.

Kathy passed away on August 10th, my sincere apology my tardiness in this posting. Our love goes out to Earnie and all of Kathy’s kids and grandkids, many of whom are also our dear dear friends - and her entire family -

Kathy was a great lover of the arts and supported many arts organizations, including ours. We thank her for her support and for her friendship and for her honesty… she was a truth teller. She will be greatly missed.

id Theater is saddened to share the news of the passing of Earl Francis Brockman. Earl was the company photographer for the first 4 years of the Seven Devils Playwrights Conference and has been a supporter for all of id’s activities since 1997. During our early conferences Earl shared his talent taking pictures of rehearsals, the company photo in front of the Alpine Playhouse and occupying a front row seat at our readings to get that perfect shot. During that time he switched from film to digital photography, embracing the change from a medium he had been working in all his life. As his health declined in the last several years he was not able to be present for the full time we were in Idaho, but would frequently visit for a reading or two while we were in McCall. Our condolences go out to his wife Frances Ford and all of his children and grandchildren. We will miss his smile in the front row. You can find some of the photo’s he took for id in our photo gallery under 2002, 2003 & 2004. The McCall Star-News full obituary can be found at http://www.idtheater.org/pdfs/earl.pdf
